- Consult a qualified technician for any repairs beyond basic troubleshooting.
- Whakamahia ngā pūtake hiko me ngā taura kua tohua anake.
3. Tatūnga me te Tāuta
The FUR-IF-NMEA2K2 converter is designed for straightforward integration into existing marine electronic systems. Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance.
3.1 Te Wetewete me te Tirotiro
Upon receiving the unit, carefully unpack it and inspect for any signs of damage. Ensure all components are present.
3.2 Te Tauwhi Maunga
Select a mounting location that is dry, protected from direct weather exposure, and allows for adequate ventilation. Avoid areas with high vibration or electromagnetic interference.
3.3 Hononga Waea
The converter features connections for both NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 networks. Refer to the diagram below for proper wiring.

Figure 1: FURUNO FUR-IF-NMEA2K2 NMEA Data Converter. The image displays the converter unit with a circular NMEA 2000 connector on one end and multiple color-coded bare wires for NMEA 0183 connections on the other. The main body of the converter is black with a label indicating "NMEA DATA CONVERTER", "TYPE IF-NMEA2K2", "SER.NO. 001866", and options for "NORMAL" or "HIGH SPEED (CUT ORANGE)" operation.
3.3.1 NMEA 2000 Connection
Connect the circular NMEA 2000 connector to your vessel's NMEA 2000 backbone. Ensure a secure, watertight connection.
3.3.2 NMEA 0183 Connection
The bare wires are for NMEA 0183 input and output. Refer to your NMEA 0183 device's manual for specific wiring requirements. Common connections include:
- Data In (Rx): Connect to the NMEA 0183 Talker's Output (Tx).
- Data Out (Tx): Connect to the NMEA 0183 Listener's Input (Rx).
- Papa: Connect to the common ground of the NMEA 0183 system.
3.4 High-Speed Mode Selection
The converter supports a high-speed mode for specific data types. To enable high-speed mode (e.g., for heading and AIS data), locate the orange wire and follow the instructions on the converter's label. Typically, this involves cutting or connecting the orange wire as indicated for "HIGH SPEED (CUT ORANGE)" or "NORMAL" operation.
Tuhipoka: Incorrect selection may lead to data transmission errors. Consult your system's requirements before altering this setting.
4. Nga Tohutohu Whakahaere
Once properly installed and powered, the FUR-IF-NMEA2K2 converter operates automatically, translating data between the connected NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 networks.
4.1 Te Whakahaa
Ensure all connections are secure. Apply power to the NMEA 2000 network. The converter will power on automatically as it draws power from the NMEA 2000 bus.
4.2 Data Flow
The converter transparently translates NMEA 0183 sentences to NMEA 2000 PGNs (Parameter Group Numbers) and vice-versa. Verify data reception on your connected NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 devices.
- NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000: Data from NMEA 0183 talkers connected to the converter's input will be broadcast on the NMEA 2000 network.
- NMEA 2000 to NMEA 0183: Relevant NMEA 2000 PGNs will be converted into NMEA 0183 sentences and output via the converter's NMEA 0183 output wires.
5. Tiaki
The FUR-IF-NMEA2K2 converter is designed for minimal maintenance. Regular checks can help ensure long-term reliability.
- Tirohanga Ia Wa: Annually inspect all cable connections for corrosion or damage. Ensure connections are tight.
- Te horoi: If necessary, gently wipe the unit with a soft, damp kakahu. Kaua e whakamahi i nga matū kino me nga horoi horoi.
- Whakahōu Pūmanawa: Check the FURUNO website periodically for any firmware updates for the converter. Follow specific instructions provided with any updates.
