4. Whakaritenga

  2. Te horoi: Remove any dirt, dust, loose particles, or old flaking finishes. For previously oiled or stained wood, clean thoroughly. For new or untreated wood, a light sanding may be beneficial, followed by dust removal.
  3. Existing Finishes: Old paints and lacquers must be completely removed. Old open-pored stains or oils should be cleaned and lightly sanded.
  4. Wood Species: For exotic hardwoods, allow them to weather for at least 4 weeks before treatment to ensure proper absorption.

5. Taupānga

General Application Guidelines:

  • Apply thinly and evenly along the wood grain.
  • Use a good quality brush or roller.
  • Ensure good ventilation during application and drying.
  • Protect surrounding areas from splashes.

Taupānga taahiraa-i-te-taahiraa:

  1. Koti Tuatahi: Apply a thin, even coat of Osmo UV-Protection Oil Extra to the prepared, dry wood surface. Work along the wood grain.
  2. Wā whakamaroke: Allow the first coat to dry for approximately 10-12 hours under good ventilation. Lower temperatures and higher humidity will extend drying time.
  3. Koti Tuarua: After the first coat is completely dry, apply a second thin, even coat.
  4. Te whakamaroke Whakamutunga: Allow the second coat to dry for another 10-12 hours. The surface should be fully cured and ready for use after 24-48 hours.

Tuhipoka Nui: For optimal results and longevity, always follow the manufacturer's instructions provided on the product packaging.

6. Tiaki

  • Whakapai auau: Clean the treated surface regularly with a damp cloth and a mild, pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Tono anō: The frequency of re-application depends on the level of weathering and exposure. Typically, a maintenance coat is recommended every 3-5 years, or when the surface begins to show signs of wear or reduced water repellency.
