2.1. Tāuta Pūhiko
The DR-40 operates on 3 AAA batteries. To install, open the battery compartment located on the back of the device. Insert the batteries according to the polarity indicators and close the compartment securely.

2.2. Kōkuhu Kāri SD
The device records to SD/SDHC/SDXC cards. A 2GB card is typically included. Locate the SD card slot on the side of the recorder. Gently insert the SD card until it clicks into place. To remove, push the card in slightly until it springs out.

2.3. Te Hiko / Whakaweto
Press and hold the power button to turn the device on or off. The LCD screen will illuminate upon startup.

3.1. Ngā Aratau Tuhituhi
The DR-40 supports various recording modes:
- Te Hopu Reo 4-Ara: Simultaneously record from the built-in microphones and external mic inputs.
- Te Hopu Rekoata Takirua: Captures a safety track at a lower level to prevent distorted takes, ensuring a usable backup.
- Hopu Tuoro: Utilizes the built-in microphones or two external inputs for stereo capture.
