Follow these steps to set up and connect your CTEK MXS 5.0 charger:
- Whakapaia te Pūhiko: Ensure the battery terminals are clean and free from corrosion. If the battery has vent caps, ensure they are securely in place.
- Tūhono ki te Pūhiko:
- For battery clamps: Connect the red (+) clamp to the positive battery terminal and the black (-) clamp to the negative battery terminal or a good chassis ground point away from the battery.
- For eyelet connectors: Permanently attach the eyelets to the battery terminals (red to positive, black to negative) and then connect the charger's output cable to the eyelet connector.
The charger is reverse polarity protected, but always double-check connections.
- Hono ki te Putanga Hiko: Plug the charger's power cord into a suitable wall socket (110-120V AC). The charger will perform a self-test.

5.2 8-Step Charging Cycle
The MXS 5.0 automatically progresses through these steps:
- STEP 1: DESULPHATION - Removes sulphate from the lead plates to restore battery capacity.
- STEP 2: SOFT START - Tests if the battery can accept charge. Prevents charging a defective battery.
- STEP 3: TUPUNA - Charges with maximum current until approximately 80% capacity.
- WAHI 4: TE WHAKAMAHI - Charges with decreasing current to 100% capacity.
- WHANGA 5: TE TATAHI - Tests if the battery can hold charge. If not, the battery may be faulty.
- STEP 6: RECOND (Optional) - Reconditioning mode for deeply discharged batteries.
- STEP 7: FLOAT - Maintains the battery at maximum voltage by providing a constant voltage utu.
