The Protimeter Surveymaster comes ready for use with a 9V alkaline battery included. Follow these steps for initial setup:
- Tāuta Pūhiko: Ensure the included 9V battery is correctly installed in the battery compartment, typically located on the back of the device.
- Whakahiko: Press the power button (usually marked with a power symbol) to turn on the device. The display will light up, indicating it is ready for operation.

- Whakahohenga: Remove the protective cap to expose the pins. Press the right-hand button on the device to switch to pin-type mode.
- Whakaaturanga Panui: Similar to non-invasive mode, both numeric values and the color arc (green, yellow, red) indicate the moisture level.
- Whakamahinga: Gently push the pins into the material until they are firmly embedded. Read the moisture content from the display.

- Deep Wall Probes: The included 5-inch long, insulated deep wall probes are designed to measure moisture deep within materials. They are insulated along their length, ensuring that only the tip measures moisture. These are particularly useful for assessing moisture in cavity walls (e.g., measuring insulation) or deep into brick and mortar.
- Other Compatible Probes: The universal accessory port supports various other Protimeter pin-type probes, including hammer electrodes, extension pin probes, and baseball probes, offering versatility for different applications.
