Upon opening your DJI OSMO package, ensure all components are present:

3.2. Tāuta Pūhiko me te Whakatau

  1. Insert the provided Lithium Polymer battery into the battery compartment located at the base of the OSMO handle. Ensure it clicks securely into place.
  2. Connect the battery charger to a power source and then to the OSMO unit. Charge the battery fully before its first use. The indicator light on the OSMO will show charging status.

  1. Locate the SD card slot on the camera unit.
  2. Insert a compatible micro SD card (e.g., SDHC/SDXC) with the metal contacts facing downwards until it clicks into place.
  3. It is recommended to format the SD card via the DJI Go app before first use to prevent potential "Invalid SD Card" errors.

3.4. Smartphone Holder Attachment

  1. Attach the smartphone holder to the designated mounting point on the OSMO handle.
  2. Secure your smartphone into the holder. This will serve as your live view monitor and control interface.

3.5. Smartphone App Connection

  1. Tikiake me te tāuta i te DJI Go app (ensure it is not the DJI Go 4 app, as mentioned in user feedback) from your smartphone's app store.
  2. Power on your DJI OSMO.
  3. On your smartphone, connect to the OSMO's Wi-Fi network (SSID and password can be found on the OSMO unit or in its initial setup guide).
  4. Launch the DJI Go app. The app will automatically detect and connect to your OSMO, providing a live camera feed and access to settings.

4. Operating the DJI OSMO

4.1. Te Hiko / Whakaweto

To power on or off the DJI OSMO, press and hold the power button located on the handle until the indicator lights illuminate or turn off.

4.2. Mana Taketake

  • Ririhiko: Use the joystick on the handle to precisely control the camera's pan (left/right) and tilt (up/down) movements.
  • Pātene tuhi: Press once to start video recording. Press again to stop. In photo mode, press to take a picture.
  • Patene Aratau:
    • Single press: Switch between video and photo modes.
    • Double press: Recenter the gimbal.
    • Triple press: Switch to selfie mode (camera faces the user).
  • Pātene Keu: (Located on the front of the handle)
    • Hold: Lock the gimbal's orientation, keeping the camera pointed in a fixed direction regardless of handle movement.
    • Double tap: Recenter the gimbal.
    • Triple tap: Switch to selfie mode.

4.3. Hopu Ataata

  • The OSMO supports 4K (4096 x 2160) video recording at 24 or 25 frames per second (P).
  • Ataata files are typically saved in hōputu MP4.
  • Adjust video resolution, frame rate, ISO, and other advanced settings through the DJI Go app.
  • For bright outdoor conditions, consider using Neutral Density (ND) filters (sold separately) to control exposure and prevent blown-out highlights, especially in the sky.

4.4. Hopu Whakaahua

  • Capture high-resolution 12MP still photos.
  • Photos can be saved in JPEG or DNG RAW format for maximum post-processing flexibility.

4.5. Gimbal Stabilization

The integrated 3-axis gimbal actively stabilizes the camera, ensuring smooth and steady footage even during movement. Utilize the gimbal controls and various modes (e.g., Follow, Lock) within the DJI Go app to achieve desired camera movements.

4.6. Wi-Fi for Monitoring and Remote Operation

The built-in Wi-Fi module allows your smartphone to act as a live view monitor and remote control. This enables you to adjust settings, preview shots, and control the camera from a distance.

5. Tiaki

  • Te horoi: Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to clean the camera lens and the OSMO body. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Rokiroki: Store your DJI OSMO in a cool, dry environment, away from direct sunlight and excessive dust.
  • Tiaki Pūhiko: For optimal battery life, avoid completely draining or overcharging the Lithium Polymer battery. If storing for extended periods, charge the battery to approximately 50-60%.
  • Whakahōu Firmware: Regularly check the DJI Go app for available firmware updates. Keeping your OSMO's firmware up-to-date ensures access to the latest features, performance improvements, and bug fixes.

6. Te Raru

  • "Invalid SD Card" Error: This error often indicates an incompatible or improperly formatted SD card. Ensure your SD card meets the recommended specifications and format it using the DJI Go app. If the issue persists, try a different SD card.
  • Sky Overexposure / Blown-out Highlights: In very bright outdoor conditions, the sky may appear overexposed. This is a common challenge for cameras with smaller sensors. Using Neutral Density (ND) filters can help reduce the amount of light entering the lens, allowing for more balanced exposure.
  • Gimbal Drift or Tilted Horizon: If the gimbal appears to drift or the horizon is not level, perform a gimbal calibration through the DJI Go app. Ensure the OSMO is placed on a flat, stable surface during calibration.
  • Kounga Ororongo iti: The built-in microphone may not provide professional-grade audio, especially in noisy environments. For improved audio, connect an external microphone to the OSMO's audio jack.
  • DJI Go App Crashing or Connectivity Issues: Ensure you are using the correct DJI Go app (not DJI Go 4). Restart both your OSMO and smartphone. Verify that your smartphone is connected to the OSMO's Wi-Fi network and that the app is up-to-date.
