3. Hototahi

This 6ft length seal is designed to seal either the sidewalls OR the tailgate bottom gap. For complete sealing of both sidewalls and the tailgate bottom gaps, a 10ft length kit is recommended (search ASIN: B00IPQWXZQ).

  • Use on sidewalls when using a ROK BLOCK (ASIN: B00BPE4AP6).
  • Use on sidewalls when using a BedRug truck bed liner that covers only the tailgate bottom gap.

4. Tāutanga

Proper installation is crucial for the effectiveness of the tailgate seal. Please follow these steps carefully.

4.1. Whakaritenga

  1. Ensure the air and surface temperature is between 55°F - 104°F (13°C - 40°C) for optimal adhesive bonding.
  2. Thoroughly clean the application area on your truck bed and tailgate using the provided alcohol prep pads or a suitable degreaser. The surface must be dry and free of dust, dirt, wax, or oil.
  3. Test fit the seal along the intended path to determine the correct placement and any necessary cuts.

4.2. Ngā Hipanga Tono

  1. Begin by peeling back a small section of the red adhesive liner from one end of the seal.
  2. Carefully align the exposed adhesive portion with the cleaned surface of your truck bed or tailgate. Apply light pressure to secure it.
  3. Gradually peel off more of the red liner while pressing the seal firmly into place. Work in small sections to ensure a straight and secure application.
  4. For corners or tight areas, you may need to cut smaller pieces of the seal to fit. Ensure all edges are pressed down firmly.
  5. Apply at least 25 lbs. of pressure along the entire length of the installed seal to ensure proper bonding of the adhesive. You can use a roller or firmly press with your hand.
  6. After installation, keep the tailgate closed for at least 24 hours to allow the adhesive to cure and achieve maximum bond strength. Avoid exposing the seal to water for approximately 3 days.

  • Periodically inspect the seal for any signs of wear, damage, or detachment.

  • Ensure the adhesive remains firmly attached. If any section begins to lift, reapply pressure or consider replacing the affected section if necessary.

8.1. Incomplete Seal / Dust or Water Intrusion

  • Tirohia te Tāutatanga: Re-verify that the seal was applied to a clean, dry surface within the recommended temperature range. Ensure sufficient pressure (25 lbs.) was applied during installation.
  • Inspect Placement: Confirm the seal is positioned correctly to cover all gaps. Some truck models may require inverting the seal's bulb for a tighter fit (refer to Video 3 in the Installation section).
  • Additional Gaps: Check for other potential entry points for dust or water, such as gaps in the front corners of the truck bed, especially if using a truck cap or tonneau cover. These may require additional sealing solutions.

8.2. Seal Detachment

  • Whakaritenga Mata: Ensure the surface was thoroughly cleaned and dry before application. Any residue can prevent proper adhesion.
  • Wā Whakawera: Allow the full 24-hour curing period with the tailgate closed, and avoid water exposure for 3 days, to ensure maximum adhesive bond.
