Palmer PAN04A

Pukapuka Kaiwhakamahi mō te Pouaka DI 2-Hongere Palmer Active (PAN04A)

Model: PAN04A

1. Kupu Whakataki

The Palmer PAN04A is an active 2-channel DI box designed to convert unbalanced, high-impedance instrument signals into balanced, low-impedance signals suitable for microphone inputs on a mixing console. This device ensures signal integrity, minimizes noise, and eliminates ground loop interference, making it ideal for both live stage performances and studio recording environments.

This manual provides essential information for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your Palmer PAN04A DI Box.

2. Nga waahanga matua

  • Active 2-channel DI box with premium balancing transformers.
  • Wide frequency response of 10–40 kHz, ensuring high dynamic range.
  • Switchable -30 dB input attenuation for handling high-level signals.
  • Individual ground lift switch for each output to eliminate hum and noise.
  • Balanced mono summed output for combining both channels.
  • Robust construction suitable for demanding stage me te whakamahi studio.
  • Flexible power options: 9-24 V DC mains adapter or phantom power (when two outputs are connected).

3. Tatūnga me nga Hononga

Before connecting the PAN04A, ensure all audio equipment is powered off to prevent potential damage.

3.1 Tuku Hiko

The PAN04A can be powered in two ways:

  • DC Mains Adapter: Connect a 9-24 V DC power adapter (center positive, 100mA minimum) to the "POWER 9-24 V DC 100mA" input jack.
  • Mana Phantom: If two balanced outputs (Balanced Output A and Balanced Output B) are connected to a mixing console that provides phantom power (+48V), the unit will automatically draw power from the mixer.

Note: A power supply is not included with the unit and must be purchased separately if not using phantom power.

3.2 Hononga Whakauru

  • INPUT A / INPUT B: Connect your instrument (e.g., guitar, bass, keyboard) to the respective 6.35 mm (1/4") input jack.
  • LINK OUT A / LINK OUT B: These 6.35 mm (1/4") jacks provide a direct, unprocessed signal from the input. Use these to connect to an instrument amplifier or another device for monitoring purposes.

3.3 Hononga Huaputa

  • BALANCED OUTPUT A / BALANCED OUTPUT B: Connect these XLR outputs to the microphone inputs of your mixing console. These outputs provide a balanced, low-impedance signal.
  • BALANCED OUTPUT A/B (MONO): This XLR output provides a balanced, low-impedance mono sum of both Channel A and Channel B. Use this when you need to combine both channels into a single output.

4. Mahi

4.1 Input Attenuation (-30 dB PAD)

Each channel features a switchable -30 dB input attenuation pad. Engage this switch if you are connecting a high-output signal source (e.g., active pickups, line-level signals) to prevent input clipping and distortion. For most passive instruments, leave the pad disengaged.

4.2 Ground Lift

Each balanced output (A and B) has a ground lift switch. If you experience hum or buzzing noise, particularly when connecting to different power sources or equipment, try engaging the ground lift switch for the affected channel. This disconnects the ground connection between the DI box and the mixer, often resolving ground loop issues.

4.3 Mono Summing

The "BALANCED OUTPUT A/B" XLR output combines the signals from both Channel A and Channel B into a single mono output. This is useful for applications where a stereo signal needs to be mixed down to mono, or when you want to send two instruments to a single mixer input.
