5.3 Hononga Waea
The Maxxima M85417R light comes with two 10-inch wires featuring female PL-3 pigtails. Connect these wires to your vehicle's electrical system according to the following general guide. Always consult your vehicle's specific wiring diagram for accurate connections.
- Waea Ma: Honoa ki te whenua o te anga o te waka.
- Waea Pango: Connect to vehicle's tail/running light circuit.
- Red Wire (from 3-wire plug): Connect to vehicle's brake/turn signal circuit.
- Red Wire (from 2-wire plug): Connect to vehicle's reverse light circuit.
Note: The ground wires for both light circuits are typically shared. Ensure all connections are secure, properly insulated, and protected from environmental elements.
For some vehicles, particularly those with older incandescent flasher relays (e.g., certain Jeep Wranglers), installing LED lights may cause 'hyper-flashing' of turn signals. This occurs because LED lights draw less current. To resolve this, an LED-compatible flasher relay or load resistors (not included) may be required.
6. Nga Tohutohu Whakahaere
The Maxxima M85417R light operates automatically in conjunction with your vehicle's electrical system:
- Tail Light Function: When your vehicle's headlights or parking lights are activated, the red LEDs will illuminate at a lower intensity, serving as tail lights.
- Stop Light Function: When the brake pedal is pressed, the red LEDs will illuminate at a higher intensity, signaling braking.
- Mahi Tohu Huri: When the turn signal lever is engaged, the red LEDs will flash to indicate a turn or lane change.
- Back-Up Light Function: When the vehicle is shifted into reverse, the white LEDs on the outer ring will illuminate, providing clear back-up lighting.

- Check all wiring connections for proper contact and ensure they are securely fastened.
- Verify that there is power supplied to the light's circuit.
- Inspect the vehicle's fuses related to the lighting system.
- Turn Signals Hyper-Flashing:
- This is a common issue when replacing incandescent bulbs with LED lights due to lower current draw.
- Install an LED-compatible flasher relay or appropriate load resistors (not included) into the turn signal circuit.
- Moisture Inside Lens:
- Ensure the neoprene gasket is correctly positioned and not damaged.
- Verify that all mounting screws are tightened evenly to create a proper seal.
