- Whakauruhia nga Pataha: The LeapStart system requires 3 AA batteries. Ensure they are inserted correctly according to the polarity markings in the battery compartment.
- Hono ki Rorohiko: A computer with an Internet connection is required to download the audio and 3D animations for activity books onto the LeapStart system. Use the provided USB cord to connect the device to your computer.
- Tikiake Ihirangi: Follow the on-screen instructions on your computer to install the LeapFrog Connect application. Once installed, use the application to download the content for your LeapStart books. Note that the system has limited storage, allowing for approximately 6-7 books at a time, depending on their content size.
- Insert Book: Open the LeapStart system and place an activity book onto the designated area, aligning the spiral binding with the system's clips.

- Activities and Levels: Each book contains over 30 activities, many of which have two levels of difficulty. This allows children to progress at their own pace and master over 50 key skills per grade level, covering subjects from preschool through first grade.
- Exploring Content: Tap on various elements to explore reading, counting, problem-solving, and other educational content. The system provides audio feedback and visual cues to guide the child.
- Mana Rōrahi: Adjust the volume using the dedicated buttons on the device to suit the environment and user preference.
