This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your Emerson 1E78-140 Non-Programmable Heat Only Thermostat. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and use to ensure proper function and safety.
The Emerson 1E78-140 is designed for use with most single-stage heat-only systems, including 24-volt and millivolt systems. It is not compatible with electric baseboard heat or certain other systems.

- Turn off power to your heating system at the main fuse or circuit breaker panel.

- Position the new thermostat base on the wall. Use the provided screws and anchors to secure it.

Hiranga: Ensure power is off before wiring. This thermostat is for 2-wire heat-only systems. Connect wires only to R and W terminals.
Refer to the wiring diagram below. Identify each wire attached to the old thermostat by taking a photo of old wiring.

- Connect the wire from your heating system's R terminal to the R terminal on the thermostat.
- Connect the wire from your heating system's W terminal to the W terminal on the thermostat.
Tāuta Pūhiko
The thermostat requires two AAA batteries for operation. Install the batteries into the compartment located on the back of the thermostat, observing the correct polarity (+/-).

Turn on power to your heating system at the main fuse or circuit breaker panel.

The system switch is located on the front of the thermostat. It has two positions:
- WATE: Turns the heating system off.

Use the Up (▲) and Down (▼) buttons located next to the digital display to adjust your desired temperature setting. The thermostat will maintain this temperature with a precision of plus/minus 1 degree Fahrenheit.

The digital display features a backlight for improved visibility, especially in low-light conditions. The backlight activates when buttons are pressed.
