The Sharp EL-1501 calculator is designed for cordless operation, powered by batteries. Follow these steps to prepare your calculator for first use:
- Tāuta Pūhiko: The calculator requires 4 AA batteries. These batteries are included with your purchase. Locate the battery compartment on the underside of the calculator. Open the compartment cover, insert the batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-), and then close the cover securely.
- Whakahiko: Pehia te ON/C.CE button located on the bottom left of the keypad to turn on the calculator. The display should illuminate.
- Initial Display Check: Verify that the 12-digit main display and the 5-line scrolling LCD are functioning correctly.

3.1 Nga Mahi Taketake
- Tāurunga Tau: Use the numeric keypad (0-9) to enter numbers.
- Nga Mahi Aritmetika: Whakamahia te +, -, ×, a ÷ keys for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, respectively.
- Ōrite: Pehia te = key to display the result of a calculation.
- Ūkui Whakaurunga/Ūkui Katoa: Ko te C.CE key clears the last entered number or the entire calculation depending on the context.
- Mokowāmuri: Whakamahia te ← key to delete the last digit entered.
3.2 Nga Mahi Ake
- Cost/Sell/Margin (CSM): These dedicated keys (Utu, HOKO, MGN) simplify profit margin calculations. Enter any two variables, and the third will be automatically calculated.
- Hei tatau HOKO price: Enter Utu, perehi Utu, tomo MARGIN %, perehi MGN, ka pehi HOKO.
- Hei tatau Utu: Tomo HOKO price, press HOKO, tomo MARGIN %, perehi MGN, ka pehi Utu.
- Hei tatau MARGIN %: Tomo Utu, perehi Utu, tomo HOKO price, press HOKO, ka pehi MGN.
- Tax Keys: Whakamahi TAX+ a TAX- for quick tax calculations. Set the tax rate using the WHAKAMAHI REITI mahi.
- Nga Mahi Mahara: The calculator includes a four-key memory (M+, M-, RM, CM) for storing and recalling values.
- Tapeke Nui (GT): Ko te GT key accumulates the results of calculations and displays the grand total.
- Rounding and Decimal Settings: Adjust rounding and decimal places using the dedicated switches/buttons.
- Mahi Panuku: The 5-line secondary LCD allows you to scroll back and forth through up to 300 previous entries using the arrow keys (▲, ▼).

4. Tiaki
