Connect the keyboard to your computer using the provided Type-C to Type-C cable. If your computer only has USB-A ports, use the included Type-A to Type-C adapter.

3. Operating System Switch

Locate the operating system switch on the back or side of the keyboard. Toggle it to the appropriate position for your system (Mac or Windows/Linux). This ensures correct key mapping and functionality.

1. QMK/VIA Software Customization

The Keychron Q1 V2 supports QMK/VIA, allowing for intuitive key remapping and macro creation across macOS, Windows, and Linux. To use VIA:

  1. Connect the Keychron Q1 V2 to your device via cable.
  2. Download the appropriate keymap JSON file for the Q1 V2 from the official Keychron webpae.
  3. Open the VIA software.
  4. In the VIA software, navigate to the "Settings" tab and enable "Show Design tab".
  5. Drag the downloaded JSON file into the "Design" tab in VIA to load the Q1 V2 keymap.

You can now customize key assignments, create macros, and adjust lighting effects.

2. Whakawhiti Hot-Swappable

The keyboard features hot-swappable sockets compatible with most 3-pin and 5-pin MX style mechanical switches (e.g., Gateron, Cherry, Kailh). This allows you to install or change switches without soldering. The keyboard comes pre-installed with pre-lubed Gateron G Pro Brown switches, offering a tactile response and a lifespan of up to 50 million keystrokes.

3. Double-Gasket Design

The Q1 V2 incorporates a double-gasket design. In addition to gaskets on the plates, silicone pads are placed between the top and bottom cases. This design significantly reduces sound resonance between metal components and minimizes noise from impacts, enhancing typing sound and maintaining structural flexibility.

4. Screw-In PCB Stabilizers

The keyboard features screw-in PCB stabilizers, which increase stability for larger keys (space bar, shift, enter, delete) and simplify changes or upgrades. The Keychron Q1 V2 also supports third-party stabilizers, including Cherry or Durock.

  • Whakawhiti: Use the switch puller to grip the top and bottom clips of the switch and pull upwards. To install a new switch, ensure the pins are straight, align them with the holes on the PCB, and press down gently until the switch is seated. Do not force the switch if it does not go in smoothly, as this may bend the pins.
