  • Te Pawera Nui: Avoid exposing the watch to extreme temperatures (below 0°C / 32°F or above 60°C / 140°F) or sudden temperature changes, as this can affect accuracy and seals.
  • Āpure autō: Keep the watch away from strong magnetic fields (e.g., speakers, refrigerators, mobile phones) as magnetism can affect the movement's accuracy.
  • Matū: Avoid contact with solvents, detergents, perfumes, and cosmetics, which can damage the case, strap, or seals.
  • Pānga: Protect the watch from strong shocks or impacts.

  4. Push the crown in one click to Position 1 to set the date and day. Turn the crown clockwise to adjust the date and counter-clockwise to adjust the day. Avoid setting the date/day between 9:00 PM and 3:00 AM, as this is when the date change mechanism is engaged.

  6. Push the crown back in to Position 0 and screw it down tightly clockwise to ensure water resistance.

3.3 Adjusting Bracelet

The metal bracelet can be adjusted by adding or removing links. This procedure often requires specialized tools and precision. It is highly recommended to have this adjustment performed by a qualified watchmaker or jeweler to prevent damage to the bracelet or watch.

4. Mahi

4.1 Automatic Movement (Caliber F6922)

Your Orient "Mako-3" watch is powered by an in-house automatic mechanical movement. This means the watch is wound by the motion of your arm while wearing it. When fully wound, the movement has a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it will stop. Simply hand-wind it as described in Section 3.1 or wear it for a few hours to restart it.

4.2 Water Resistance (200m / 660ft)

The watch is water resistant to 200 meters (660 feet). This rating indicates suitability for professional marine activity and serious surface water sports. It is crucial to ensure the screw-down crown is fully tightened before any exposure to water to maintain this water resistance. This watch is not designed for saturation diving.

4.3 Unidirectional Rotating Bezel

The watch features a unidirectional rotating bezel, which is a common tool for divers to measure elapsed time. The bezel rotates only counter-clockwise to prevent accidental increases in measured time, which could be critical during a dive.

  1. Align the triangle marker on the bezel with the minute hand at the start of an event (e.g., a dive or cooking time).
  2. As time passes, the minute hand will point to the elapsed time on the bezel's scale.

5. Tiaki

5.1 Te horoi

Hei pupuri i te ahua o to mataaratanga:

  • Wipe the case and crystal with a soft, dry cloth regularly.
  • For the metal bracelet, use a soft brush and soapy water to clean dirt from between the links. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water and dry completely with a soft cloth. Ensure the crown is screwed down before cleaning with water.

5.2 Rokiroki

When not wearing your watch for an extended period, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and strong magnetic fields. The original watch box (Figure 5.1) is ideal for storage.

Like any precision mechanical instrument, your watch requires periodic servicing to ensure optimal performance and longevity. It is recommended to have your watch inspected and serviced by an authorized Orient service center every 3-5 years. This service typically includes cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment of the movement, as well as replacement of seals to maintain water resistance.
