  • WHAKATŪPATO: This unit is locked with no serviceable parts. The backup battery is not replaceable. If power is interrupted and the backup battery is dead or missing, maintenance and testing must be performed as indicated below. Exposure to high or low temperature or high humidity may reduce battery life.

  5. Activate Battery Backup: Remove the clear plastic pull tab from the side of the alarm to activate the internal 10-year battery backup.
  6. Āpiti Wae Whakaoho: Align the smoke alarm unit with the mounting bracket and twist clockwise until it locks securely into place.

  8. Pūoho Whakamātau: Press and hold the 'Test/Silence' button on the front of the alarm until it sounds. This confirms proper operation.

The First Alert SMI105-AC smoke alarm is designed for simple operation and clear alerts:

  • Patene Whakamatau/Wahangu: Press the large button on the front of the alarm to test its functionality. If the alarm is sounding due to a non-emergency (e.g., cooking smoke), pressing this button will temporarily silence it.
  • Alarm Guide:
    • 3 Pao: Indicates a smoke alarm.
    • 3 Chirps every Minute: Indicates a malfunction. Replace the alarm.
    • 5 Chirps every Minute, LED Flashes 2 sec on/2 sec off: Indicates low battery. Replace the alarm.
    • 5 Chirps every Minute, 5 LED Flashes: Indicates end-of-life. Replace the alarm.

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and proper function of your smoke alarm:
