1. Introduction to Fluffy Valley

Welcome to Fluffy Valley! This cooperative board game invites players to prepare their burrow for the upcoming winter by collecting essential supplies. Work together to gather fruit, hay, and honey, and store them safely in your burrow. Be vigilant, as winter can arrive unexpectedly, and mischievous animals may attempt to hinder your progress.

This game is designed for 1 to 4 players aged six and up, offering a fun and engaging experience for families and friends.

Before starting, please ensure all components are present. The Fluffy Valley game box should contain the following items:

  • 1 x Main Playboard

3. Tatūnga

Follow these steps to set up your Fluffy Valley game:

  1. Place the Main Playboard: Unfold and place the main playboard on a flat surface. This board features the prairie area with various holes and a burrow section for storing supplies.
  2. Distribute Resource Tokens: Identify the fruit, hay, and honey tokens. Place them according to the game's specific rules (refer to the detailed rulebook for exact placement, usually indicated on the board or in the rulebook).
  3. Prepare Player Pieces: Each player selects a prairie dog figure. Place these figures at their designated starting positions on the board.
  4. Set Up Game Cards: Shuffle the game cards and place them face down in their designated area on or next to the board.
  5. Prepare Storage Area: Ensure the burrow section of the board is ready to receive collected supplies.

4. Whakahaere (Te Tākaro)

The objective of Fluffy Valley is for all players to cooperatively gather enough supplies to prepare the burrow for winter before time runs out or malicious animals interfere. Players take turns performing actions to move their prairie dog, collect resources, and bring them back to the burrow.

Te Rere o te Tākaro Taketake:

  • Te Hurihanga o te Kaitākaro: On your turn, you will typically move your prairie dog and then perform an action.
  • Nekehanga: Move your prairie dog across the prairie board. The number of spaces you can move may be determined by dice rolls or card draws.
  • Collecting Resources: When your prairie dog lands on a space with a resource token (fruit, hay, or honey), you can collect it. These resources are vital for winter preparation.
  • Returning to Burrow: Once collected, resources must be brought back to the burrow section of the board to be stored.
  • Encountering Challenges: Throughout the game, event cards or specific board spaces may introduce challenges, such as encounters with malicious animals or changes in weather, requiring players to adapt their strategy.
  • Mahi tahi: Success depends on effective communication and teamwork. Players must decide together the best course of action to ensure all necessary supplies are gathered.
