Tatūnga

Hononga Mana

Connect a 9V DC power supply (center-negative, minimum 500mA) to the 9VDC input jack. Ensure the power supply meets these specifications to prevent damage to the unit.

Hononga Ororongo

Connect your instrument or audio source to the LEFT IN and RIGHT IN jacks. Connect the LEFT OUT and RIGHT OUT jacks to your amplifier, mixer, or next pedal in the signal chain. The pedal supports full stereo input and output.

Hononga MIDI

The BigSky MX supports both TRS MIDI and standard 5-pin DIN MIDI connections for external control and synchronization. Connect MIDI IN from your controller and MIDI OUT to other MIDI devices.

Hononga USB-C

Use the USB-C port to connect the pedal to a computer for firmware updates and access to the Strymon Nixie editor software.

Expression Pedal / MultiSwitch

The EXP input allows connection of an optional TRS expression pedal, MultiSwitch, or MultiSwitch Plus for expanded real-time control over various parameters.

The BigSky MX features a comprehensive set of controls for precise sound shaping:

  • VALUE Knob: Adjusts parameters and navigates menus. Push to access global settings or secondary functions.

Nga Mahi Waewae

  • BANK DOWN: Decrements the preset bank.
  • BANK UP: Increments the preset bank.
  • INFINITE/FREEZE: Engages the Freeze or Infinite sustain function, depending on the reverb machine and settings.

Whakaaturanga OLED

The OLED display shows the current preset number, reverb machine type, parameter values, and routing information for dual reverb modes.

Reverb Machines

The BigSky MX offers 12 distinct reverb machines, each providing unique sonic characteristics:

  • Hiringa: Loads up to 10-second stereo impulse responses (IRs). Includes 22 unique stereo IR captures of classic studio and vintage taputapu.
  • Kapua: Creates vast soundscapes with near-infinite decay.
  • kanapa: Adds pitches to the reverb decay, offering organic response.
  • Puanga: A slow-building reverb for large, sustaining sounds.
  • Chorale: Generates intricate, lifelike vowel sounds within the reverb.
  • aukume: A multi-head echo effect with adjustable head count (one to six).
  • Korerangi: Provides various physics-defying reverb shapes for unique textures.
  • Rūma: A medium-sized room reverberation with excellent clarity.
  • Whare: A spacious hall reverb with new Swell capability.
  • Rūma: Creates intimate environments, from well-tuned studios to larger venues.
  • Puna: Allows full tank customization, from the amount of drip to the number of springs.
  • Pereti: Two plate types: Small and Large, with instant digital response and full-range analog sound.

Dual Reverb Operation

The BigSky MX features a tri-core 800MHz ARM processor, enabling two reverb machines to run simultaneously. These can be routed in Series, Parallel, or Split configurations, with independent panning for each engine. Switch between engines with a single button press while editing.

Impulse Response (IR) Control

The convolution engine supports loading 10-second stereo impulse responses. The pedal comes pre-loaded with 22 unique stereo IR captures of classic studio and vintage gear, offering extensive creative options for sound design.

To ensure optimal performance and longevity, keep the pedal clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Avoid exposing the unit to extreme temperatures, moisture, or direct sunlight. Disconnect power when not in use for extended periods.

If you experience issues, first verify all cable connections (power, audio, MIDI, USB). Ensure the correct power supply is used. If no sound is present, check input and output levels and ensure the MIX knob is not set to fully dry.
